Titus 2 Tuesday -My Name is Pride

What have learned from another woman this week? (or ever)

Write your own "Titus 2 Post" (linking back here somewhere within the body of your post) and enter your link below!

Pride has a way of rearing it's ugly head in our lives doesn't it? It affects our marriage, our relationship with our children, friends, just about everyone we come in contact with really. A girlfriend of mine, who I love dearly because we can always be completely real with one another through the good and the bad; shared this poem with me awhile back when we were delving into lessons the Lord is speaking into our lives. I got goosebumps as she read it to me. God had given it to her the week before she shared it with me.

Thanks Julie, I honor your influence upon my life girl!

My Name is Pride
by: Beth Moore

My name is Pride.
I am a cheater.

I cheat you of your God-given destiny,
because you demand your own way.

I cheat you out of contentment,
because you, "deserve better than this."

I cheat you out of knowledge,
because you already know it all.

I cheat you out of healing,
because you are too full of "me" to forgive.

I cheat you out of holiness,
because you refuse to admit when you're wrong.

I cheat you out of vision,
because you'd rather look in the mirror than out a window.

I cheat you out of genuine friendship,
because nobody's going to know the real you.

I cheat you out of love,
because real love demands sacrifice.

I cheat you out of greatness in heaven,
because you refuse to wash another's feet on earth.

I cheat you of God's glory,
because I convince you to seek your own.

My name is pride.
I am a cheater.

You like me because you think I"m always looking out for you...untrue.
I am looking to make a fool of you.

God has so much for you. I admit, but don't worry,
you stick with me, you'll never know.

As Beth Moore often says, "Anyone else?" (while raising my hand...)

Thank you, Julie, for being a friend who helps me to grow and for being an example of someone willing to face the negative aspects in our lives head on.

*This is a repost from a previous Titus 2 Tuesday. As I have been praying about what to share this week; I was prompted to share this post again.

Wow! What an amazing way to think about it. And so very true.

THANK YOU for posting this - a good way to get good and mad at allowing the enemy to use our own selves to defeat what God wants for our lives.

Shanda,
This posting this morning was so good. Pride ouch it hits everyone does it not? None exempt!
Thanks for the reminder this morning to keep myself humble and before the LORD in all things

I've never seen this before, and I love it! Pride is so ugly. I hate it and i hate that it's in me. I humbly come before the cross this morning. Thanks.

Ahhh...the "P" word. None of us need it, yet we all have it, somewhere. Those that think they NEVER deal with pride, are prideful about not being prideful LOL...Hmmmm.

Really great post Shanda!

Beth Moore was in my bed this morning when I woke up. In final moments of reading, I enjoy God's Word, but last night, I took in Beth Moore's "take" on:
JOHN
(90 Days With The Beloved Disciple).
Her writings always make me think.

I closed the book when I awoke, and put it on the stand to meet Beth again tonight.

My brother is a free spirit. Too free. He drove a motorcycle without a helmet. Cars ahead were stopped at a light at 2 AM, and he knew he would crash the last in line. He leaned left and skidded, leaving his brain on Highway 41 in Florida.
A cop nearby, waiting for night time people to run the light saw it all, and immediately began rescue.
He saved his life, albeit my brother lives with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and disabled for good. His wife led me to a web www.tbihome.org that she visits for coping as caretaker.
I perused the site, read caretaker, survivor, discussion, humor, and working.

In Working category, a recovering TBI person had difficulty getting a job. She could not remember the process, we all take for granted.

So I posted what a Resume is - what you have done in the past. And, I posted what a Cover Letter is - what you bring to the table for a company for a particular job. And though there is discrimination for work as TBI, few companies can resist the quality they bring to the table, perseverence.
(She got a job!).

As I read Beth Moore out of bed this morning in your blog post, I looked at that list on Pride and knew there is not one of us left to say "Not Guilty". All of us are there on the list.

Our lives tell our Resume - what we did in any time period.
But as I read the list by Beth, I began to ponder:
"What if we needed a Cover Letter to get into heaven?"

"What do we bring to the table, what skill set would get us in?"

"My Name Is Pride" looked like a Cover Letter for all of us to get the job of Heavenly Resident. Pride is a widely honed skill set for all of us.

Just print that list and hand it to God (I don't have His email address handy, but his Prayer Express line is always open, cheap to use, and fast as you can think).

And God will review this list and answer:
"YES, this is what we are looking for! Sinners.
Do you have a reference?"

And we reply:
"His name is Christ. He's my reference".
It seals the deal every time.

I will get a cup of coffee as my printer spits out a few dozen copies of the Pride stanza you supplied from Beth.
Some, I will hand out. Most, I will pin all over the house to remind me as I move from room to room that Pride makes me..... tbi.

Good blog. My ladies in my church are doing the Beth Moore Bible study on Ester. Love it. We just got done with chapter 6 when the King called Haman and asked him how someone could be honored. Haman thinking it was him gave a clear description how it should be done. Amazing how we are alot like Haman and that P word! Thanks Robin

Pride is one of those insidious sins which, unfortunately, I find evidence of in my life in places I never thought were available to it.

Gross.

But God.

Lurve the poem.

Wow, that poem stepped on my toes just a bit, but that's a good thing. Also, as for the song on my blog "supermassive black hole" it was just a coincidence. Now, I'm slowly trying to rebuild what was lost. One day, I'm gonna be so tech savvy that I won't lose things to deep space anymore, until then, I'm getting in some good practice.

Great poem....I was struck with the idea of losing out on genuine friendships - which I so want - when we are not real ourselves! Thanks for reposting this...first time for me!

Excellent post, Shanda. And trust me, that's just as applicable to us guys.

I love Beth Moore. That poem was so good. Is it pride that I was thinking of other people it applied to instead of myself??;) Oh Lord forgive me for those prideful ways.

Thanks too for your sweet comments on my blog today. I love hearing from you.

thanks for giving this very heartfelt post. Yup, pride is an ugly sin, thanks for being used by the Lord to help remind us of this sin.
