Marital Moments Issue 21 - The Love Dare

February is the "month of love." You see hearts, chocolates, and classic romance movies in many store displays. Ironically, it is seeing these very symbols of love that stir up dissatisfaction with love within many of our hearts. "My husband won't be buying that for me..." "I wish I had that kind of a love story..." I truly believe the enemy of our soul works overtime around Holidays to discourage us. Click here to read a previous post on "Great Expectations."

If you have not yet seen the movie, Fireproof, I strongly encourage you to rent it. The book, "The Love Dare" was used as part of the movie and is now also available for purchase. It is a 40 day challenge of practical things you can do to work on your marriage.

Today I am giving away a free copy of, "The Love Dare" by Stephen Kendrick to one of my readers who respond to this post.

This is what you need to do to win:

1. Leave a comment under this post telling me why you would like to win it.

2. Make sure I can either link to your blog to let you know if you have won or leave an e-mail address for me to contact you at if you are the winner.

**I will leave this give away open until Wednesday, the 11th.**

**I will commit to pray for every marriage of those who leave comments every day from now until Valentines Day (and after as I am led to. Just to be clear; the power is not in my praying; but in the power of Jesus Christ working in your lives.)**

My husband and I went to the theater to watch this movie. We never go out to the movies...but it was so worth it! Even though we have a good marriage it was so good to watch this and be encouraged. The book would be great to read and we all have things in life we need work on. And who wouldn't want to make their marriage even better!

My mom & I bought this movie at our hotel while out of town for a funeral. To tell the way it spoke to me would take way longer than I should leave in a comment. I came home the next day and downloaded the entire soundtrack into my ipod. I wanted to get the Love Dare, but with three kids and money being tight, I haven't done so. To be able to have the book and have my husband and I each read it and DO it would bring our marriage to a new level with each other, with God and reconnect our marriage TO God. I really believe that not only would it affect us, but it would show our kids how having our Father be a big part of our marriage makes it SO much better. Hopefully, it would spark in them the light that when they are ready for marriage, they want to have one that walks each day with our Father.

Thank you for having this giveaway. I'm crossing my fingers!

My husband and I went to see this movie and thought it was great! Those Kendrick boys know how to touch the heart. One of them has a cute article in this month's HOME LIFE. Anyway. We gave my husband the Love Dare for Christmas. Its in his drawer..so he isn't using it. I did question him about it, and he said he was going to use it. It hasn't really bothered me too much, because I dont want him to do it because I nag him..it won't mean the same. I want him to want to pick the book up and use it..on his own. I would like to have the book to go ahead and start using it myself. After all..its BOTH of us in the marriage. I tried doing the 30 days of prayer for your husband..that was good too..but I do want try out Love Dare..that way there is journalling involved too. Thanks a lot!

Hey...thank you for your encouragement during my "sad" days! I love having friends around the country:)!
I loved this movie too! I am always challenged in my marriage to think about how I can love better. It's so easy to turn the whole thing into how am I being loved instead of how am i loving! I need to take the love dare every day! Its great medicine for our marriage!!:)

Shanda, what a wonderful blessing! I will gratefully accept your prayers for Chris's and my marriage. Please don't enter me for the giveaway, though; I've already got the book AND the DVD! :-)

Hope all went well for you this morning. We prayed for you!

In July I will have been married to my husband for 10 years. The only problem is, I feel like I am not in love with him anymore. I feel like the spark has just about gone out. However I don't want to be like this. I want to succeed in this commitment that God has called us to. I think using this book would be a great tool to get us back on track.

I pre order this movie from best buy..I had a desire in my heart to see it.. I believe GOD gave me the desire to see it..(Philippians 2:13) So I watch it by myself, cried my eyes out..To tell you my story it would take a while but to shorten up here it goes. I got married at the age of 19, I wasn’t prepare for it and about 2 Year later we split up, we had a little girl together, she is now six..we are not together but we haven’t gotten a divorce...Just about everyday I wish I would had been wiser to and tried everything to save my marriage, but I decided to walk away I couldn’t take it no more the verbal abuse, financial needs, everything was just to much at once, basically I graduated from high school, went to college, got married, got pregnant, became a wife, and a mother..Everything happen so fast it overwhelm me. If I would have sought for GOD help it would have be differnt. We still married and there still hope. I have been fasting and praying for GOD will to be done between me and him.we have been slip up for 4 years with out a divorcee...we still married. I just want GOD to tell me what to do.. My husband just had a baby with another women.I use to be in a relationship my self but I broke up with him because I was tired and a shame of living that sinful life. I just want for GOD to reunite us back together if that is what GOD wants for us, or a divorce so I could move on with my life. Am tired of wondering what’s going to happen between me and him.
I want to do that dare for my marriage and see what the outcome will be.

Hi Shanda - Just saw your giveaway on SITS. My husband and I do marriage counseling with an older couple from our church and yesterday they let us know that they are doing the love dare, well he is anyway, because I guess it's best if only one spouse does it at a time. So he recommended it to my husband, who is psyched about it.

O.K. I should totally win this because my 10-year anniversary is this Friday!
And get this. My hubby donated $ to some organization (can't remember which) and they sent the movie Fireproof as a thank you. Just got it in the mail TODAY! (We haven't seen it yet).
And um... let's see. My Bible study is doing Power of A Praying Wife right now.
And I LOVE your Marital Moments posts.
And...
How's that?
=)

Oh yeah. I haven't seen Fireproof yet, but did you see Facing the Giants by the same church (brothers)? That movie SPOKE. TO. ME.

I was shocked when MY husband wanted to see the movie at all! He's not a very mushy-gushy man in the first place, and very seldom will express his feelings in public, much less DEMONSTRATE them, but he was excited to see the preview for this movie in church and we did end up seeing it together! I was shocked.

I'd LOVE the book FOR ME to show HIM just how much I love him. He wasn't raised by loving parents, so to be a husband, he was on his own in learning. And Sunday is our 17th wedding anniversary. :)

I have not seen the movie but it is now on my list for a movie night in with the hubby! The book sounds amazing too.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I am wanting to see it. My husband and I have been on our own journey of becoming one in our marriage and it will always be a journey that we have to take together. I have learned that we also need the help from the Lord and any righteous source that can give us ideas and insight of what we can do to keep a marriage strong. Thanks for helping all of us to remember our spouse.
